Look for energy efficiency
When shopping for the right replacement windows for your home you will come across some windows that are marked for energy star, these windows that are marked by this mean that these have been tested against others to lower your energy bill. These windows are well worth the few extra dollars to spend and could save you thousands of dollars over a few years time. Remember if you get energy efficient windows you can get up to $1,500.00 tax credit!
Decide the type of pane you will need
There are single pane windows, double pane windows and some even offer triple pane windows. The more panes you get, the more these cost but they also insulate twice or three times as good.
How dark do you want your rooms
Some windows now come made with a special tint, to help your energy bills by not letting as much sun light into your home. If you appreciate sun light, however I wouldn’t choose tinted windows.
Look for the U Factor
The U-Factor is a measure that will tell the amount of heat lost from this particular product. Most of the ratings will fall some where between a .20 to 1.20. You will need to look for a rating that is low to ensure optimal insulation. The lower the better!
Also be sure to do a few last things
Remember that all types of windows can be very expensive. You may never see a return on your investment, but you will see a savings once you get your electric bill. Always be sure that you save all of your receipts. Remember that Some but not ALL energy efficient replacements are eligible for tax credits! Be sure the windows that you purchase are!
