Many times, today’s hectic lifestyles bring enormous amounts of stress and stress-related illnesses. Therefore, it is necessary to know about stress management and how to implement it.
What Is Stress?
It’s anything emotional and/or physical that puts pressure on us to perform what we can’t. Since stress “happens”, stress management is essential: we need to know how to pick our battles.
Stress Management Strategy Implementation
* Eliminate the unnecessary: leave the essential, set priorities and stick with them. What comes first in your life? Is it career or family? Friday night bowling or Wednesday night Bible study? Then, of course, your mind and body need a day of rest too. (Even God rested on the Sabbath).
* Delegate authority: people doing their fair share will help lessen the stress. Who takes out the garbage, bathes Fido or picks up Sally from Walmart? A man’s home is his castle but if he can’t manage what goes on at home, how is he going to manage his life?
* Setting priorities is integral To successful stress management. An “order” needs to be established. Are children more important than a wife or husband? If so, you’re out of “order”. Is work more important than family? Once again, you are out of “order”. If a ministry or church activity comes before the family or work, then, incredibly, this is out of order too. Who established order? God Himself established “order”: God first, family second, work/career third and ministry last. Get your order in Divine Order, and everything falls into place.
* Values in stress management. A belief system is an essential GPS device in your life. With Judeo-Christian values in place, when you get off course, you’ll know it. And if off course, you values will guide you back. Bad relationship problems, financial set backs and/or illnesses may be avoided if there is a values guidance system in place.
Therefore with all of the above in place, you will succeed in stress management in your life – and be a success in life as well. If you find yourself unable to manage stress on your own, you may want to seek a therapist in Houston or elsewhere who specializes in stress related issues.
